Indoctrination, Lin Duperron

In this series of photographs, I am visually expressing what I view as Catholic indoctrination in education, politics and family life. The series largely centers on a heritage of sacramentalism, and is a personal exploration of post war beliefs colliding with the counterculture of the 1960’s and 70’s in rural Quebec, where Catholicism structures life, from baptism to death. The series explores the importance of confession and the underlying doctrine of “original sin”, accompanied by a constant sense of shame, guilt and the need for atonement.
The series is composed of staged portraits photographed in my apartment during the 2020 pandemic lock down.
